Why Work For Banks?

1. Health and Wellbeing
We have been awarded the North East Better Health at Work Award for Maintaining Excellence. We are supported by the Samaritans and have nominated personnel trained in Mental Health First Aid to cover all of our locations. We demonstrate a strong working relationship with Recovery4Life, who offer health support and guidance and have an occupational health nurse available to all employees.

2. Competitive Remuneration and Benefits
Our benefits package includes a generous company pension scheme, annual bonuses for all employees, life assurance, long service awards including additional holidays, car discounts, membership of Aon Plus and leisure centre discounts.

3. Heritage and History
We are a family business, based in County Durham and established in 1976.  Whilst our history was based on meeting the UK’s demand for energy and industrial customers needs for coal and fireclay, we ceased coal extraction in 2021 and have successfully diversified our work to develop land for a variety of uses.   We are at the heart of society’s journey to tackle the housing shortage by promoting new residential and commercial property schemes and  tackling climate change by developing a range of new renewable and flexible energy generation and storage projects (including onshore wind, solar PV and battery storage).  We also offer our 45 years of expertise developed in quarrying, plant maintenance, transport and infrastructure services to other customers.

4. Community Fund
The Banks Community Fund was established to provide support to community groups, voluntary organisations and environmental projects that are located in close proximity of current or proposed Banks Group developments. The fund ensures that local communities that host Banks’ operations share the benefits.

5. People Plan
Our People Plan is our “roadmap” for employee development, covering employee resourcing, talent management and development, employee engagement, recognising and rewarding excellence and business partnering. Reviewed on an annual basis, our People Plan has the full commitment and support of our Board.

6. Employee Appraisal Process
Employees are encouraged to maximise their level of performance and contribution and to grow to their fullest potential. To help reach and sustain optimum performance, employees are provided with timely and objective performance feedback via our annual appraisal process. As a Silver Investors in People organisation, we take training seriously.

7. Employee Satisfaction
The average length of service is 9.5 years (against a national average of around 4.5 years) and we have employees who have worked with us for over 40 years.

8. Culture
As a commitment to ongoing career development, we have a philosophy of internal promotion, wherever this proves possible, and encourage our people to take on the challenge of new and more demanding work.
