As a graduate, you will be appointed a mentor and will have regular appraisals to support your development, on the job learning and formalised training including the opportunity to attain professional qualifications.

INITIAL APPLICATION

PRE-RECORDED INTERVIEWS
Following your initial application, subject to you meeting the essential criteria of the job, you will be required to answer a short selection questions set by the hiring manager, this will be recorded. Don’t forget, this is your opportunity to sell yourself.

ASSESSMENT CENTRE:
If you are successful following your telephone interview, you will be invited to attend an assessment centre at a venue local to our head office in Durham, North East. On the day, you will be asked to participate in various team activities so that we can learn more about you and your style. We may ask you to pre-prepare a short presentation to deliver on a 1:2:1 basis, and there will be an interview with the relevant hiring manager. The assessment centre is a real opportunity to showcase your personality and what you have acquired during your university studies. We understand this may be daunting but it’s a real opportunity to engage with other students, who may become your future colleagues!

1. Why did you want to join the Banks Group Graduate programme?

James Robson, Graduate Project Manager: When looking for a graduate programme I was aiming to find one which had exposure to both structured learning and the real working environment. This way I would experience the best of both worlds, learning key principles and being able to apply them in the ‘real world’.

Nour Matarid, Graduate Development Engineer: I have always been interested in renewables and when I saw and read the job advert, I really liked the sound of the role. I then looked at the Banks Group website and was attracted to the company’s Development with Care strategy. The more I read about the company, it’s values and vision, the more I wanted to join the Graduate Programme.

Adam Heron, Graduate Electrical Engineer: I saw an excellent opportunity aimed at recent graduates like myself to join a local company which is actively expanding the UKs renewable energy assets and supporting the transition to net zero. I thought Banks’ company values were very forward-thinking and pragmatic and demonstrated the company’s commitment to sustainable development.

2. What have you enjoyed most since joining Banks?

James: The people and culture. Everyone has been extremely helpful and willing to help at any moment, all the time. Really appreciated for a fresh graduate who is often stuck!

Nour: What I enjoy the most is the people and the projects that we work on.

Adam: I have enjoyed being involved with a wide range of projects in various stages of the project lifecycle, from initial site finding all the way operational sites. Site visits are always a great reminder that, although a lot of time is spent working in the office, Banks is continually building projects across the UK which make positive impacts on local communities and towards the decarbonisation of the UK’s energy industry.

3. What have you found most challenging so far?

James: I’ve been working on a wide range of projects all at various stages of their life so trying to keep up with all the moving parts on each project has been extremely challenging!

Adam: Learning about the intricacies of the energy market, the national grid, and the opportunities and challenges they present to the company has sometimes been challenging, but has definitely improved my understanding of the renewable energy industry.

4. Is important to you to feel like you are contributing to the achievement of net zero and why?

James: Yes, it’s important for everyone and I feel like our renewable projects are really making a difference. We only have one chance to combat climate change so we must do it right! Feeling like we’re making a difference also brings a real sense of satisfaction to the work we’re doing, especially when a project can be realised!

Nour: Feeling like I am contributing to achieving net zero is why I wanted to join Banks and work in the renewables department. I am an environment enthusiast!
