Project description
The riverside site had previously been used for a variety of industrial uses and was remediated ready for development by The Banks Group over 20 years ago.
Banks Property gained planning permission on the site to regenerate the area with a mix of family homes, offices, car showrooms, retail, community facilities, recreation and a nature reserve. This important regeneration project has been split into two main phases so far:
Phase one involved the building of around 250 much needed new homes, a children’s nursery and office buildings car show rooms and other commercial uses along with the large (15 hectares; c37 acres or about 24 football pitches) wildlife reserve.
Phase two will involve the building of around another 269 much needed homes. Banks Property are working with Keepmoat Homes to develop this final phase of housing which will include 86 affordable homes. We hope to be able to start the final phase in 2025.
Economic benefits
These include the jobs created by the construction of the homes and offices and the nature reserve. Over 5,000 people work in the neighbouring area so there is a potential to create a really vibrant area to live, visit and work in.
Social benefits
These include the creation of open spaces with riverside views for visitors and residents.
Environmental benefits
Visitors, including the general public, employees and residents are able to visit the award winning nature reserve on the site, which is looked after by Tees Valley Wildlife Trust, using walkways and interpretation boards. The wildlife theme blends with the built development through water features and sensitive and extensive planting throughout.
