Banks Mining is the principal contractor for Saint-Gobain Formula’s Bantycock Quarry, a gypsum mine near Newark, Nottinghamshire. Since acquiring the contract, Banks Mining’s key objective has been to manage the site in a safe, smart and sustainable way.

Meet Neil, site manager at Bantycock Quarry in Newark. Neil tells us all about the improvements we’ve made since taking over in 2021 and the experiences to be had on a site of this scale!
The first year…
Our first full year saw record production figures and for the first time ever, the amount of gypsum mined exceeded half a million tonnes.
Based on the success of operations, Saint-Gobain Formula has instructed Banks Mining to open up new areas of the site by extracting additional gypsum seams at a deeper level.
Continuous improvement…
Banks Mining has used its 47 years’ experience in the surface mining industry to make valuable improvements to Bantycock Quarry. These new changes are just a few of the steps we have made towards creating a safe, efficient and sustainable site.
- New route across the site- reducing travelling distance between excavation and tip locations, therefore reducing fuel consumption and vehicle emissions
- Widening haul roads to accommodate larger plant machinery meaning fewer trips needed to tip locations
- A new one way system for safer working
52 strong…
Our work at Bantycock Quarry has enabled us to provide more job opportunities for the local area, and we now have a 52 strong team of highly skilled individuals working at the site whilst providing development opportunities for our people like site supervisor Gavin Clarke, watch Gavin’s interview below.
