Plans for a proposed new residential development in a North Yorkshire village are set to go on show for the first time later this month.

Developer Banks Property is bringing forward plans for a new development to the west of Great Ayton, which would see up to 130 homes being built on a 6.5 hectare site on the northern side of the A173.

The development would include a 30 per cent provision of affordable housing, as well as a biodiversity net gain of at least ten per cent and would also see new areas of public open space and green corridors being created within the site.

A range of different property types would be built to meet different local needs, with a new road being built off the A173 to allow access to the site.

Banks Property is set to hold two consultation events in the village to introduce its proposals to local people, with members of the project team on hand to speak to visitors about the plans, answer any questions they may have and collect any feedback.

Both events will take place at Great Ayton Village Hall on the High Street, with the first one happening between 4pm and 730pm on Tuesday 23rd June and the second one following on Tuesday 30th June from 11am to 330pm.

Banks Property is expecting to submit a planning application for the project to North Yorkshire Council later this year – and if it is approved, work could start on site before the end of 2028.

Jamilah Hassan, community relations manager at the Banks Group, says: “This will be a high-quality development in which we’re looking to create a range of sustainable, contemporary homes in a great location that is well connected to local facilities.

“The high proportion of affordable housing it includes will also give more people an even greater opportunity to stay in or move to the area.

“Feedback from local people is essential in helping us finalise all our development designs and we’re holding these community events to give the people of Great Ayton the chance to speak directly to our project team about all the different aspects of our proposals.”
