A much-needed bus route to the evolving Seaham Garden Village site is set to be opened through a new residential development on an adjacent piece of land.
Developer Banks Property has submitted a planning application to Durham County Council for a new residential development which would be located to the north of the new Garden Village roundabout access on the A182.
The South Seaham project would see up to 210 homes being built on the 14-hectare site, with the planning application covering the first 53 of these properties in detail.
No bus services are currently planned for the Seaham Garden Village site, but after discussions with transport operator Go North East, Banks Property has included two large lay-bys in its proposals which would allow for bus routes to cover both developments
The proposed Banks development would also include a 15 per cent provision of affordable housing, as well as a biodiversity net gain of at least ten per cent and would see new areas of public open space and green corridors being created within the site.
A range of property types would be built to meet different local needs, with a new road into the development being created off the Garden Village roundabout to provide access.
Banks Property is expecting its proposals to come before Durham County Council’s planning committee by the middle of next year, and if they are approved, work could begin on the site in early 2028.
