
Shotton
Banks Mining has been working Shotton, near Cramlington, since 2008. The site, which is over 400 hectares, is now in the restoration and landscaping phase, where overburden material and soils are being restored to create an improved landscape. The Shotton liaison committee, made up of local residents, councillors and Northumberland County Council officers met for the final time in September at Northumberlandia to see the progress of the landscaping work.
The restoration of the site was completed in 2022. As part of the restoration plan, Northumberlandia was created. In addition to Northumberlandia, we created new permissive public access and improved wildlife corridors, new planting and improved agricultural land, as shown below.

Through careful management, the site team at Shotton have been able to increase the population of key species during the operation of the site, including:

- Lapwings
- Brown Hare
- Bats
