Location: Land to the south east of Crook town centre
Local authority: Durham County Council
Postcode of nearby property: DL15 9GD
Size: About 11 hectares (c27 acres)

The 11 hectare site contained a disused and derelict brick works, a colliery spoil heap and joinery shop.

Project description
Banks Property carried out a comprehensive land reclamation and stabilisation scheme extracting 70,000 tonnes of coal and re-compacted the overburden soils to National House Building Council (NHBC) standards, allowing the subsequent home building development on the site to take place. Coal extraction was complete in 1989.

Banks Property secured planning permission from Durham County Council to build 65 new homes on the c2.4 hectares (six acres) of the site. Banks Property sold the site to Bett Homes (as was, now called Avant Homes) in the early 1990s.
