Renewables Development Surveyor (Site Finder for onshore wind, solar and energy storage)

A rewarding opportunity for an experienced site finder to join our multi-disciplined team of professionals. You will be responsible for securing high quality development sites across the UK (onshore wind, solar and energy storage) to build a pipeline of renewable energy projects.

You will also take responsibility of several land negotiations to achieve specific project and financial objectives.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • To identify new renewable generation and flexible energy projects for the company across the United Kingdom, with a primary focus on England as may be agreed with the Development Director, which fulfil the requirements of the company as set out in the Renewables Business Plan or by the Renewables Board from time to time.
  • To provide support to the Development Director and the wider team in their efforts to develop a successful business plan and to provide specific help within estates and business development areas.
  • Identify sites pre-planning and wherever possible avoid competition.
  • Prepare the initial development concept, identify, and approach landowners and agree site and individual negotiating strategies with the Development Director.
  • Use internal and external resources to take projects successfully through to Key Review B stage.
  • Agree and review the site finding strategy and requirements with the Development Director a regular basis.
  • Negotiate on behalf of the company, however all efforts must be agreed with the Development Director and always be subject to the approval of the Board.
  • Prepare financial appraisals for use at Key Review A and B stages and prepare and obtain approval for initial budgets to progress sites through to Key Review C.
  • Liaise with the wider BRL team members to support delivery of projects.
  • Conform to the Banks Quality Project Management System as it relates to the job.
  • On occasion, represent the Company at liaison meetings and landowner meetings etc., out with normal working hours.
  • Work with the wider BRL team members to achieve both individual and the Company’s Key Financial and Non-Financial targets.
DELIVERABLES:
  • Achievement of a portfolio of renewable energy sites which are located out with significant technical constraints and with good planning prospects
  • Delivery of prospect and project milestones on time
  • Ensure commercial value of project is always maximised
  • Ensure all new sites have a clear, understood deliverable strategy
  • Ensure sufficient resources are made available to projects to avoid delay or reduction in quality
KEY CONTACTS:

The role will report directly to the Development Director.  The role fundamentally involves contact with the BRL team and Project Secretaries, specifically to ensure all land goals are progressed to deliver targeted key review stages and milestones.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The role will be based at the [Meadowfield/Yorkshire] with visits to the Banks Office in Hamilton, Scotland as required.

Extensive travel will be required across Northern England. A car allowance will be provided in lieu of a company vehicle.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

ESSENTIAL:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in site finding, with good knowledge of development and land use planning
  • Renewables experience preferred
  • Educated to Degree level
  • Full valid driving licence
  • Experience in using appropriate IT tools to deliver efficiency and functionality

DESIRABLE:

  • Relevant professional qualifications e.g. RICS
  • An appreciation of emerging opportunities in Renewables Industry
