We have been awarded the North East Better Health at Work Award for Continuing Excellence. We are supported by the Samaritans and have nominated personnel trained in Mental Health First Aid to cover all of our locations. We demonstrate a strong working relationship with Recovery4Life, who offer health support and guidance and have an occupational health nurse available to all employees.

3. Heritage and History
We are a family owned, County Durham based business founded in 1976. Our first 40 years have been dominated by our coal mining activities, however we have continuously identified ways to diversify our income steams by adding property development to our portfolio in the late 1980s and renewable energy in 2004.
4. Community Fund
The Banks Community Fund was established to provide support to community groups, voluntary organisations and environmental projects that are charitable and educational and in which are located in close proximity of current or proposed Banks Group developments. The fund ensures that local communities that host Banks’ operations share the benefits.
5. People Plan
Our People Plan is our “roadmap” for employee development, covering employee resourcing, talent management and development, employee engagement, recognising and rewarding excellence and business partnering. Reviewed on an annual basis, our People Plan has the full commitment and support of our Board.
6. Employee Appraisal Process
Employees are encouraged to maximise their level of performance and contribution and to grow to their fullest potential. To help reach and sustain optimum performance, employees are provided with timely and objective performance feedback via our annual appraisal process. As a Silver Investors in People organisation, we take training seriously.

The average length of service is 9.5 years (against a national average of around 4.5 years) and we have employees who have worked with us for over 40 years.
