More than 70 members of the local business community have been enjoying one of Yorkshire’s best-known gardens at the official opening of North East property and energy firm The Banks Group’s new county offices.

“Harewood Yard provides an excellent base with good transport links road links and also offers the room for expansion that we’ll need as our presence in Yorkshire develops."

Earlier this year, Banks took a new office at Harewood Yard, close to Harewood House, as part of its plans to increase its project portfolio across the county.

After having to delay its official opening plans for the converted Grade II-listed building, the family firm has now been able to welcome a range of industry contacts, professional advisors and clients to see its new offices and talk about its work across the county.

“The Banks Group has a long track record of successful Yorkshire developments across its property, renewable energy, minerals and infrastructure businesses, operates four onshore wind farms across the county”

The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Asghar Khan, cut the ribbon to officially open the new office, while guests were also taken on a guided tour of Harewood House’s magnificent terrace garden by head gardener Trevor Nicholson.

As well as providing a base for Banks’ growing Yorkshire-based team, the new office is also being used by colleagues who live in different parts of the county, as well as by visitors from the firm’s County Durham headquarters who are working on local projects.

The Banks Group has a long track record of successful Yorkshire developments across its property, renewable energy, minerals and infrastructure businesses, operates four onshore wind farms across the county which last year generated enough green electricity between them to meet the annual power needs of more than 31,500 homes, and has also previously developed housing schemes in Sheffield, Harrogate and Leeds.

It is currently looking at options for deploying new renewable energy generation technologies in a number of sites across the county and recently won planning approval for the 40MW Barnsdale solar energy park, which will sit to the south east of Leeds. It also has residential property developments comprising land to build more than 2,000 homes either in the planning system or draft allocated in Local Plans in various local authority areas around the county.

Rob Ormrod, senior land manager at Banks Property, says: “Harewood Yard provides an excellent base with good transport links road links and also offers the room for expansion that we’ll need as our presence in Yorkshire develops.

“We’re very grateful to the Lord Mayor for performing the official opening ceremony and to all the guests who came along to take a look at our new home, rather later than we’d originally planned.

“Harewood’s terrace garden offers wonderful views across the surrounding countryside, and it was great to be able to share them with our guests, especially with the unmatched expertise offered by our guide.

“The Banks Group already has extensive experience of working right across Yorkshire and we’re increasing our footprint around the county, with much more to come across all our business areas.”
