Plans for a new residential development on land to the north of Hurworth have been submitted to Darlington Borough Council by regional employer Banks Property, part of The Banks Group.
The County Durham-headquartered firm announced initial development proposals back in October for a development of up to 100 new family homes on a 5.6 hectare site, which was to be known as Hurworth North.
Since then, it has carried out a series of community consultation events at which many members of the local community have been able to find out more about what’s being put forward, review the long-term economic, environmental and social benefits that the project would bring to the local area, and provide comments and ideas on what they’ve seen.
Last year, Banks Property was granted planning permission for 95 new family homes on a 5.4 hectare site off Roundhill Road in the village.
The Hurworth North site, which is located to the north of the Roundhill Road development, was considered for inclusion in the first scheme, but was left out due to perceived issues around its geological composition. Subsequent ground investigation revealed that areas of the land are in fact suitable for housing, which led Banks Property to revisit its original ideas.
Lewis Stokes, community relations manager at The Banks Group, says: “We’re pleased to have been able to speak to so many local people over the last couple of months about our plans for the Hurworth North site and to gather feedback directly from them.
“This is a carefully-designed scheme located in an area where we are confident there will demand for homes from people who want to move to or stay in the area, and we are pleased to have now reached this landmark in the planning process.
“Our Roundhill Road development is raising a great deal of interest from people who want to stay in or move to the area, and we believe demand would be just as strong for this new scheme, should we be granted permission to take it forward.
“We have designed the Hurworth North development to bring a range of economic, employment, environmental, social and supply chain benefits to the local area, and hope that Darlington Borough Council will recognise them when it comes before its planning committee.”
The Hurworth North scheme is expected to come before Darlington Borough Council’s planning committee next year. For further information on the development, please visit https://www.banksgroup.co.uk/projects/property/hurworth-north-darlington/
