Darlington borough council planning committee backs Hurworth planning application

Plans for a new residential development on land to the north of Hurworth are set to move forward after Darlington Borough Council’s planning committee gave its backing to the scheme.

County Durham based employer Banks Property, part of The Banks Group, had been looking to secure planning permission for 100 new family homes on a 5.4 hectare site off Roundhill Road, and had carried out extensive consultations with local people, groups and businesses on both the details of the scheme and the range of environmental and community benefits that would form part of it.

A planning application which was in keeping with the existing character, size and scale of the village, and which addresses issues such as traffic management and drainage that had been raised with Banks during the consultation process was submitted in August, and had since been recommended for approval by the Borough Council’s planning officers.

Lewis Stokes, community relations manager at The Banks Group, says: “Having had a recommendation for approval for our Roundhill Road proposals, we’re very pleased that the members of the Council’s planning committee have been minded to follow it today.

“This scheme has been carefully designed to be fully in keeping with the local area, will be sited in a wholly appropriate location for this type of residential development, and will enable us to deliver many long-term economic, environmental and social benefits to the local community.

“Staying in or moving to the places in which people want to live should be an option for everyone, and increasing the supply of quality homes across North East England through developments such as this will contribute to making this a realistic goal.

“We’re very grateful for the support we have received from local people, groups and businesses during the many months of consultation that we carried out across the community, and we will now be looking to move the project forward as soon as possible.”
