Hawick Rugby Club announces new sponsorship

August 16, 2013 | Birneyknowe News

Hawick Rugby Club is celebrating after securing a valuable new shirt sponsorship deal with local wind farm business, Banks Renewables.

Last year Hawick won promotion to the Premier League putting an end to a brief spell in the lower National League and Banks Renewables role as the club’s principle sponsor will ensure they have the means to continue their ascendency in Scottish Club Rugby.

The sponsorship deal will mean that the company’s logo will take pride of place on shirts, post-protectors, corner flags and around Mansfield Park.

Dr Charlie Oliver, Sponsorship Convenor of Hawick Rugby Football Club said: “It’s hugely important for us to secure sponsorship because running a rugby club is an expensive business. The kit alone has to be renewed each year and this is very expensive.

“Hawick are widely known as ‘The Greens’ and for that reason we felt that a company committed to green energy was an excellent choice as principle sponsor.

“Banks Renewables has already made a considerable impact on the rugby club with their generous grant to refurbish our changing rooms. Thanks to the funds our changing room facilities have dramatically improved so that local youth and juvenile teams have been able to move to Mansfield Park.

“It is hugely rewarding to work in partnership with a company which also has a mind for community involvement and with its backing we hope to stay in the top flight of Scottish Club rugby.”

Banks Renewables also recently granted the club £9,000 from their Community Fund to go towards the refurbishment of their dated changing rooms, facilities which officially opened to players and members at the end of April.

Phil Dyke, development director at Banks Renewables the firm behind proposals for the Birneyknowe Wind Farm, said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Hawick Rugby Club.

“It is of vital importance to us that local communities are at the heart of our developments, and that those living and working nearby can enjoy the benefits we can bring to a community, via our developments.

“As well as economic considerations such as job creation and training programmes, being involved with organisations like Hawick Rugby Club helps us to understand the needs of the community and strengthens our links with them.

“We hope that our new sponsorship deal will help the team as they challenge for the top title in Scottish amateur rugby.”
