North east businesses invited to register interest in multi-million pound wind farm contract opportunities

Businesses across north east England are being invited to register their interest in bidding for contracts worth millions of pounds that relate to four regional wind farm projects.

County Durham-based Banks Renewables is holding its first ever north east renewables industry ‘Meet The Buyer’ event next month, as part of fulfilling its commitment to using a local supply chain as far as is practicable on regional developments.

Banks has already secured planning approval for the Moor House and Lambs Hill wind farms, which will be located to the north east of Darlington and north west of Stockton respectively, and estimates it will invest around £32.6m in the development of the two schemes.

It is also currently progressing two further planning applications in the region, for the Windy Bank scheme in Teesdale and the Bank Field project to the north of Guisborough.

Banks is now looking to meet with prospective suppliers for all aspects of the development of these projects at a special free event which will take place at the Hardwick Hall Hotel in Sedgefield between 8am and 4pm on Friday 9 November.

The available tenders cover a wide range of different disciplines, including construction-related elements such as civil engineering, groundworks, materials supply, haulage, training, plant hire and logistics.

Contracts for other less obvious aspects of the projects, including catering, fencing, accommodation and site security, will also be available to local suppliers.

Event attendees will be able to register their companies’ interest in being added to  Banks’ recommended suppliers list, to find out more about the nature and breadth of the opportunities available, and to network with other businesses and stakeholders engaged in the renewable energy industry.

One-to-one meetings with members of the Banks construction and procurement teams, and guidance on the detail of the tendering process will also be available.

Phil Dyke, development director at Banks Renewables, adds: “Our renewable energy schemes are designed to bring a wide range of benefits to the communities in the areas where they are located, a significant part of which is the availability of contracts to local businesses that help both sustain and create employment, and this is something we’re particularly keen to push in our home area.

“As well as directly benefiting the companies that win these contracts, our approach also leads to further capital coming into the area through the local supply chain for everything from equipment and materials through to fuel, accommodation and food.

“We’ve awarded contracts to north east companies in the past around other wind farms that we’ve built in different parts of the UK, and know that there is a lot of valuable expertise in the area into which we’re hoping to tap.

“We’re keen to find out as much as we can about as many north east businesses as possible, so we can build an even more comprehensive picture of the local resources that are available and can therefore be in a position to move quickly when we reach different milestones with each scheme.”
