A 20-strong all-female team of colleagues from a County Durham-based property and energy group will be hitting the road this weekend to raise money for a leading cancer charity.
The ladies, who all work for the Banks Group at its new Meadowfield headquarters, are taking part in the Durham Race For Life, which is being held at the Aykley Heads Sports Centre on Sunday 3 July.
The team members will be running, jogging and walking their way around the five kilometre course to raise money for Cancer Research, and are aiming to raise as much as possible for the charity.
The race participants vary greatly in athletic ability, from those who are regular runners to others who’ve never run before and who will be competing in their first ever race.
Lunchtime training sessions have been taking place over the last few weeks to help everyone get ready for the big day, as well as to help build team spirit.
Christine Stobbs, who is organising the Banks team, says: “We’ve only been working together in the same building for a few months, and we came up with the idea of running the Race For Life as a way of helping everyone get to know each other a bit better.
“Training together has really helped motivate everyone for the race, especially those of us who haven’t done much exercise recently or who’ve never taken part in anything like this event before, and we’re all looking forward to getting to the starting line on Sunday.
“Like most people, lots of the team know people who’ve been affected by cancer in the past, so it’s great to be raising money for Cancer Research, and we’re going all out to raise as much money as we can.”
