The Earl of Wessex came to Durham City to visit Banks’ new Inkerman House offices, which are sited in the city’s Meadowfield area.
After taking a tour of the building and learning about Banks’ long-standing commitment to community engagement and care for the environment through its ‘Development With Care’ ethos, Prince Edward met representatives of a number of north east community groups that Banks has supported over the last 15 years through funding from the Banks Community Fund which is administered by the County Durham Community Foundation.
More than £1.4 million has been donated by Banks to good causes both across the north east and in its different areas of UK operation to help provide communities with lasting benefits from Banks’ presence in their area.
More than 100 staff from Banks’ West Cornforth and Tow Law offices have come together onto the Meadowfield site, which provides 25,000 square foot of purpose built contemporary office space.
The office has been designed with the principles of sustainable development in mind, and includes features such as the provision of rainwater harvesting and re-use, built-in recycling facilities and modern energy and water management systems.
The Banks Group was founded at Tow Law in County Durham in 1976, and has remained a family-owned business ever since. It now employs 360 people across the north of England and Scotland, and works in the surface mining, renewable energy, property development and waste management sectors.
Harry Banks OBE, chairman and chief executive at The Banks Group, says: “It’s been an honour for us to welcome The Earl of Wessex to our new offices, and we are extremely grateful that he took the time to help us mark this important landmark in the company’s development.
“We are already enjoying the benefits of having so many of our staff under one roof, and we now have the regional platform we need to continue the expansion of our business. Banks’ development with care approach has underpinned the growth of our business from the very beginning and encapsulates the approach that we take to our many projects and our relationships with local communities. Development with care is a constant reminder of our responsibilities and it is our intention that it will continue to be so as we develop our businesses from Inkerman House. ”
