Local people invited to join Marr Wind Farm community panel

People living in the communities surrounding a new South Yorkshire wind farm development are being invited to be part of a community liaison committee that will help to keep local people informed about the scheme’s progress.

Banks Renewables, part of The Banks Group, is currently constructing the Marr wind farm on land to the west of junction 37 of the A1M to the north west of Doncaster.

As part of its commitment to engage with local people throughout  the scheme’s development, Banks is now looking to form a community liaison panel made up of people from the area, which will meet every few months to get the latest information on the scheme and to feed back any comments or queries from local people about it.

A community benefits sub group will also be formed from the panel members, which will help to review and agree on the local organisations and good causes that will receive funding from the community benefits fund that is part of the wind farm’s operations.

When fully operational, the four-turbine scheme will generate up to eight megawatts of renewable electricity.

Construction work is scheduled to take around ten months, with the scheme expected to be fully operational by the start of next year.

Mark Dowdall, environment and community director at The Banks Group says: “Banks is committed to ensuring that we take every care in the development of the Marr scheme, and the formation of the community liaison committee provides a valuable forum for engagement with local people where we can ensure that they are kept up-to-date on progress with the wind farm and local people can raise any matters with our project team.

“The community fund associated with this project is designed to ensure that Banks’ presence in the area has a long-lasting positive impact and the knowledge that local panel members will bring will provide invaluable help when they decide on the projects and new facilities that should be supported by the fund.

“Our community liaison committees have proved very successful at other schemes that we have developed, and we hope to get the local community involved.”
