Turbines arrive at Hazlehead wind farm site

Construction work on a new West Yorkshire wind farm is entering a new phase after the three turbines that will make up the scheme arrived on site.

Banks Renewables, part of the Banks Group, is investing around £10m in the Hazlehead wind farm, and has been undertaking preparatory work on site, which sits on formerly derelict brownfield land to the west of Barnsley, for the last six months. (more…)

Banks Group development challenge gives Northumbria students a taste of future property development careers

More than 200 Northumbria University students have been taking part in a new initiative designed to give them a taste of what they will do and how they will work in their future careers.

North east property and energy firm the Banks Group challenged the second year students to come up with ideas for how a redevelopment scheme might be undertaken for a Banks site in Newcastle’s Ouseburn Valley.

The students, who are in the second year of BSc degree courses in Planning & Development, Estate Management, Building Surveying and Quantity Surveying, took on the different roles that would be included in a development team working on a project of this sort. (more…)

Banks Group Ladies racing for life

A 20-strong all-female team of colleagues from a County Durham-based property and energy group will be hitting the road this weekend to raise money for a leading cancer charity.

The ladies, who all work for the Banks Group at its new Meadowfield headquarters, are taking part in the Durham Race For Life, which is being held at the Aykley Heads Sports Centre on Sunday 3 July. (more…)

Appeal submitted against rejection of Moor House wind farm planning application

An appeal has been submitted by a north east developer against the decision made by Darlington Borough Council to reject its plans for a new wind farm to the north east of the town.

County Durham firm Banks Renewables, part of The Banks Group, put forward plans for the ten turbine Moor House scheme, which would be sited on land to the north east of Barmpton, around three miles to the east of the A1.

Although recommended for approval by the council’s planning officers, the first proposal was rejected by its planning committee in November last year, primarily on the grounds of the scheme’s visual impact. (more…)

Prince Edward officially opens new Banks Group HQ

His Royal Highness Prince Edward was in the north east to perform the official opening ceremony for County Durham firm The Banks Group’s new, state-of-the-art company headquarters

The Earl of Wessex came to Durham City to visit Banks’ new Inkerman House offices, which are sited in the city’s Meadowfield area.

Revised proposal submitted for Moor House wind farm scheme

Cramlington Village Community Association get into hot water thanks to Banks Group grant

Members of a Northumberland village group are getting into hot water – and they’re all very happy about it.

For, Cramlington Village Community Association now has a new boiler at its East Farm Terrace community centre thanks to a £5,729 grant given by local firm the Banks Group, via its Banks Community Fund. (more…)

Angela named as South West Durham’s top apprentice

A combination of hard work, dedication and academic achievement has led to a Durham administrator being named the county’s top trainee apprentice.  

Angela Piper, who works for the County Durham-based Banks Group, has been chosen as trainee apprentice of the year for 2010 by South West Durham Training (SWDT). (more…)

Bob hangs up his hard hat after 24 years with Banks

Senior driller Bob Bell has stepped away from the controls of his drilling rig for the final time after almost a quarter of a century with the Banks Group.

Bob joined Banks in 1987, and spent the next 24 years working across the company’s various mining sites in North East England, Scotland and the Midlands, with his final job being at the Rusha site in West Lothian. (more…)

Banks Group invests in future with new intake

A County Durham property and energy group is investing in its future development by recruiting five new members of staff for its professional training programme.

The Banks Group has recruited Matthew Simpson, Fiona MacKay, Gayle Black and Lucy Hinds for its renewables company, as well as bringing Kenneth Reader into its mining business. (more…)
